Obesity, Weight Loss

What Natural or Holistic Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Obesity
by Thomas Martin

Here is what I would do if diagnosed with obesity or needed to lose even a modest amount of weight.  This is the order of the most likely to work to the least likely:
  • I will take magnesium oil (preferably from Ancient Minerals) daily.  I will spritz about 15 shots onto my skin, rubbing it in with my forearm.  I will likely do this just before bedtime. I will also be patient, knowing that it takes about 4 months of application before the magnesium becomes part of my cells and is then most effective
  • I will take iodine in the form of Lugol's Solution (a mix of iodine and potassium iodide). I will alternate between applying it to my skin and adding to water and drinking it.  About 10 to 15 drops per day.
  • I will start drinking my Lemon Health Tea.  Upon rising in the morning, I will take an organic lemon, squeeze out the juice, put it water which has been warmed to about 115 degrees F, add two teaspoons virgin, organic coconut oil and two teaspoons local, raw honey.
  • I will take Fermented Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil daily,
  • I will take Chromium Picolinate, 200 mcgs, daily,
  • I will focus on my gut health.  I will take Betaine HCL tablets (approx. 650 mgs) with each meal.  I will make my own yogurt and eat some of it daily.  I will make my own kombucha and drink 8 to 16 ounces daily.  I will ferment my own vegetables and eat some of the mixture daily as well.  If these things are not possible, along with the Betaine HCL tablets, I will take Bio-Kult capsules to provide my digestive system with a broad spectrum of probiotics.
  • I will stop using all artificial chemical sweeteners such as aspartame, Splenda, and saccharine.  I will also stop eating anything containing monosodium glutamate (MSG) as well as glutamic acid (which is just another name for MSG).  To sweeten my foods, I will instead us local, raw, organic honey.
  • I will take about 400 mgs of green coffee extract with each meal to minimize glucose spikes
  • I will stop consuming all refined sugars and all high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).
  • I will eliminate all genetically modified foods from my diet including wheat, corn and especially soy and also eliminate all vegetable oils such as canola, corn, cottonseed and soybean.
  • I will not concern myself with joining a gym or getting a trainer, knowing that this is not the best or fastest path to weight loss.  Instead I will begin walking near my home working up to one mile per day, walking briskly.
  • I will start a juicing program, as described in my section about cancer.  I know that the more good nutrition I get into my body, the less I will crave bad nutrition.

  • I will take Cod Liver Oil daily,
  • I will take L-Tryptophan each night before bed
  • I will also consider not eating mushrooms
  • Each morning I will drink a mixture of Tom's Magic Elixer Tea, adding a pinch of Himalaya sea salt to the mixture
If none of this works after four months, I will research further into herbal solutions such as lavender.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus

What Natural or Holistic Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus

by Thomas Martin

Most auto-immune diseases have the same common link:  Poor Gut Health.  These steps are not new to this blog, but I want to emphasize their importance.

Here is what I will do.  I know the more steps I take, the better the results:
  • I will eat whole milk, organic yogurt every day.  If possible, I will make my own using new culture for each batch.  I make a half gallon of full fat milk yogurt each week.  I make my yogurt, using a Yogourmet maker as well as their brand of starter.  I use only whole milk, preferably non-homogenized and even further, I use raw, whole milk.  I will avoid most store bought yogurts as they contain a wide variety of non-essential chemicals and sugars.
  • I will add fermented vegetables to my daily diet.  Sauerkraut is the most common, but I make sure the brand I buy is fermented rather than pickled.  Bubbies is a good brand.  Non-pasteurized Korean Kim Chi is also a good choice.  Again it is best to make my own.  I mix cabbage, onions, carrots, parsley, garlic, ginger and cucumbers, let it ferment for a week, refrigerate and then add it to many of the foods I eat.
  • I will take 10,000 IU of Vitamin D every day.
  • I will take Cod Liver Oil, daily,
  • I will eliminate all wheat, soy and corn from my diet.
  • I will take curcumin or turmeric to help with inflammation
  • I will drink Kombucha daily.  Kombucha is a fermented tea that provides my body with a good hit of probiotics.  It is available in many specialty stores, one brand being “Synergy.”  Although they look fruity and sweet, they are actually a bit sour to the taste.  I can also make your own Kombucha – many sites on the web can tell me how.
  • To help with the pain, I will take curcumin/turmeric and fresh ginger daily.
  • I will take Betaine HCL tablets with each meal.  Low stomach acid is often associated with people suffering from skin disorders as well as asthma and autoimmune disorders.  If I also have problems with heartburn or acid reflux, this step will make a huge difference.
  • Eliminate all sugars from my diet – this includes all artificial sweeteners.  If I must use something sweet, I will use raw, organic honey (locally harvested, if possible) or real maple syrup.
  • I will take a zinc supplement daily (50 to 150mgs).
  • I will eat a diet of unprocessed foods, one rich in organic vegetables and nutrient-dense meat and dairy.

Angina

What Natural or Holistic Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Angina

by Thomas Martin

If I had angina pain and was diagnosed with such by my doctor, I would follow the same steps as if I was diagnosed with heart disease or I had just had a heart attack.

Heart Disease

Angina is a good warning sign and will give me an opportunity to reverse the damage before I have a full scale heart attack.

Colitis, Crohn's Disease and IBS

What Natural or Holistic Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Colitis, Crohn's Disease or IBS
by Thomas Martin

I have actually had colitis in the past. I cleared it up so quickly that my doctor told me it was impossible.  I've heard this kind of nonsense too many times from doctors, "There is nothing that can be done" when I know from my research and background that the solution is often quite simple.

These diseases all have similar things in common and the path to wellness is the same.

So, here is what I will do if diagnosed with the above listed diseases:

  • Stop using all vegetable oils (which have GMO origins (genetically modified)) instead using and purposefully including pasture butter, virgin, organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil
  • I will eliminate all GMO foods from my diet such as soy, corn and wheat
  • I will eliminate all sugars including high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and all chemical sugar substitutes such as aspartame. I will not drink any sodas or diet sodas
  • I will begin making and eating whole milk yogurt daily (never low-fat or non-fat),
  • I will take Cod Liver Oil, daily,
  • I will make fermented vegetables and eat about 1/3 cup daily.  My gut flora is likely out of balance.
  • I will make and drink bone broth daily.
  • I will add organic, virgin coconut oil to my diet, taking 1 to 5 tablespoons daily. (start slowly, taking only 1 teaspoon per day and work up to higher levels.)
  • I will buy or make and consume kombucha daily
  • I will take Vitamin D3 (5,000 to 10,000 IUs daily)
  • I will begin using Magnesium Oil (preferably from Ancient Minerals) daily, about 15 sprays on my skin before bedtime.
  • I will consume nothing labeled low fat, non fat, lite or diet
  • Since these diseases are often a sign of the body's pH balance being too acid along with often a low fat diet, I will begin drinking my morning tea tonic of:
    • 12 ounces warm water (approximately 115 degrees F)
    • the juice of one organic lemon
    • 3 teaspoons virgin, organic coconut oil
    • 2 teaspoons raw, organic honey

Metabolic Syndrome

What Natural or Holistic Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Metabolic Syndrome
by Thomas Martin

I heard a cardiologist speak the other night on metabolic syndrome.  It seems to me they have just lumped several health problems together and called it something new, like it is some great discovery.

It's all the same stuff, it is our diets (primarily of processed foods) that are making us sick.

I will just follow the steps in my book Just Do This One Thing and I will know that this problem is something I need not worry about.

BUT, on the off chance I was diagnosed, here are the first things I will do to reverse the situation

  • I will begin taking Magnesium Oil (preferably Ancient Minerals) by spritzing it on my skin (about 15 shots) each evening before bed and rubbing it in with my forearm
  • I will begin taking Lugol's Solution Iodine (mix of iodine and potassium iodide) alternating between putting on my skin for it to absorb and putting it in water to drink.  Again about 10 to 15 drops daily
  • I will take an Omega-7 Oil capsule daily, with meals.
  • I will eliminate all sugar and chemical sugar substitutes from my diet, including all high fructose corn syrup
  • I will severely limit the amount of fruit juice I drink in a week.
  • I will take Fermented Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil daily,
  • I will eliminate all genetically modified foods (GMOs) from my diet, especially all soy, corn and wheat
  • I will stop using all vegetable oils, replacing them with pasture butter, virgin coconut oil and some extra virgin olive oil.
  • Since one of the major signs of metabolic syndrome is waist size, I will assume I have fatty liver and begin drinking my morning tea tonic of:
    • 12 ounces warm water (approximately 115 degrees F)
    • the juice of one organic lemon
    • 2 teaspoons virgin, organic coconut oil
    • 2 teaspoons raw, organic honey

Kidney Stones

What  Holistic or Natural Approach I would take if diagnosed with Kidney Stones
by Thomas Martin

The first thing I learned about kidney stones is that treatment for them varies wildly between humans and animals.  Traditionally, patients with kidney stones are told to reduce their intake of calcium, in other words, stop drinking milk and other milk products.  On the other hand, cattle is given even more calcium.   It appears the answer is actually somewhere between the two.

Kidney stones are caused by oxalates in food.  Adding calcium citrate to meals will alleviate the problems with oxalates.

So, having had a kidney stone attack in the past, I know the intense pain and discomfort and never want to experience it again.  Many of the steps necessary to prevent kidney stones are the same as listed in my latest book, Just Do This One Thing: A Guide To Chronic Good Health.  But, these are what I specifically do regarding kidney stones:
  • With each meal, I will take 300mgs of calcium citrate (do NOT take calcium carbonate)
  • I will take vitamin B6, 100 mgs per day
  • I will take cod liver oil, 2,000 to 4,000 per day
  • Magnesium Oil - preferably from Ancient Minerals, spritzing 15 shots or so a day onto my skin, probably just before bed.
  • Vitamin D3 - 5,000 to 10,000 IUs daily
  • Vitamin K2 - 1,000 to 2,000 mcgs daily
  • Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin), sublingual, 5,000 mcgs daily.
  • I will take arginine, 2,000 mgs per day
  • I will take vitamin C, 5,000 mgs per day, spread throughout the day.
  • I will take either a probiotic capsule such as Bio-Kult or get the bacteria naturally through yogurt, fermented vegetables and kombucha
  • I will stop eating all sugar and sugar substitutes such as Splenda and aspartame.  I will not drink sodas, including diet sodas.
  • I will prepare the following each night and drink the liquid or "milk" the following day for ten to fifteen days:
    • 1/2 pound millet
    • 8 cups hot water
    • Pour hot water over millet and let soak during the night.  In the morning, separate the liquid from the millet and drink the liquid, as much as I can, as often as I can.  I will prepare the same mixture again each night for two weeks.
In my diet, I will avoid the following foods:

  • spinach
  • soy, including tofu
  • most nuts, especially pecans
  • black pepper
  • sweet potatoes

Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes

What Holistic or Natural Approach I Would Take If Diagnosed With Type 2 Diabetes
by Thomas Martin

One day while waiting for my doctor, a video was playing in the waiting room about diabetes and how diabetics should manage their blood glucose. I was rather appalled at what was said and not said in the video.

If radical dietary changes seemed impossible to me, here is the order of changes/additions I would make to my life to control my blood glucose levels:

  • The absolute first thing I will do is start taking Magnesium Oil (preferably Ancient Minerals).  I will spritz about 15 shots onto my skin every day (before bedtime is best), rubbing it in with my forearm.  If my skin could not tolerate the oil, I will wash it off after 20 minutes,
  • The next thing I will absolutely do is take Lugol's Iodine Solution (a mix of iodine and potassium iodide).  I will alternate taking it between applying it to my skin (10 to 15 drops per day) and adding it to a glass of water and drinking it (same dose),
  • I will take an Omega-7 Oil capsule daily, with meals.  Based on a study at the Cleveland Wellness Institute, the positive effects of this step should be dramatic.
  • I will take Vitamin D3 daily (10,000 i.u.s, daily)
  • I will take Cod Liver Oil, preferably from Carlson's,  daily,
  • I will take Curcumin to reduce the inflammation in my body
  • I will take this diabetes reversing mix:  http://onepercenthealth.blogspot.com/2015/12/recipe-to-get-rid-of-diabetes.html
  • I will take green coffee extract after each meal to minimize glucose spikes, about 400 mgs with each meal
  • I will take Vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin, sublingual at 5,000 mcgs daily, as many diabetics also suffer from neuropathy,
  • I will take Olive Leaf Extract - 2,000 mgs daily,
  • I will take Chromium Picolinate, 200 mcgs, daily,
  • I will take selenium, 200 mcgs per day,
  • I will take 1 to 2 ounces of virgin, organic, cold-pressed coconut oil each day
  • I will take Spirulina and/or Chlorella daily,
  • I will stop eating all low-fat foods, eating instead their full fat equivalents
  • I will take pycnogenol, 100 mgs daily,
  • I will add chia seeds  and flax seeds to my diet,
  • The next steps are more difficult as they require sometimes unwanted changes to my diet:
    • Eliminate all sugar and all chemical sugar substitutes.  If I must use something sweet, I will use raw, organic honey but never adding it to anything above 118 degrees F.
    • Eliminate all wheat (including whole wheat) not only gluten-free but completely wheat free,
    • Eliminate all soy and soy byproducts,
    • Eliminate all corn and especially high fructose corn syrup (HFCS),
    • Eliminate all foods containing cornstarch,
    • Start a juicing program of raw, organic vegetables,
    • Stop using all vegetable oils replacing them with coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil,
    • Stop eating anything marked diet, lite or low-calorie.
  • Take probiotics, preferably Bio-Kult.   Or, it is even better if I get them naturally through eating high quality organic, whole milk yogurt (preferably homemade), drinking kombucha and kefir and eating fermented vegetables daily
I go much further into detail of these steps in my book Just Do This One Thing: A Guide To Chronic Good Health.  So, I'll re-read my own book

Since excess weight and diabetes often go hand-in-hand, I will also follow my advice on obesity and weight loss

Gout

What Holistic or Natural Path I Would Take If Diagnosed with Gout
by Thomas Martin

If I was in the midst of a gout attack, to relieve the pain I would immediately, on an empty stomach, take 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda), I would mix it into 8 ounces of water and drink it.  I would repeat this every 2 hours, not exceeding 8 glasses a day (or 4 teaspoons of baking soda per day).  I would take one glass before going to bed, one upon rising in the morning and the others between meals.  I would repeat this until the symptoms subside.

But, this is a short term solution to my problem.  In wanting to avoid attacks in the future, I will

  •  Eliminate all sugars (including and especially anything with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)) and chemical sugar substitutes.
  • Reduce my intake of all non-vegetable carbohydrates such as rice, wheat and corn.
  • Eliminate all GMO foods, including soy, corn, and wheat.
  • Start taking magnesium oil (preferably Ancient Minerals), spritzing on 10 to 15 shots onto my skin and rubbing it in with my forearm.
  • I will make fermented vegetables and eat about 1/3 cup daily.  My gut flora is likely out of balance.  This is especially beneficiary if the root cause of the gout is a fungal infection.
  • I will also drink kombucha daily to both help flush my liver and improve my gut health.  One brand available through markets such as Sprouts is Synergy.  Although, it is best to make your own.
  • Start drinking Tart Cherry Juice or take some sort of Tart Cherry Extract capsule daily.
  • Take cod liver oil (which is rich in Vitamin A), taking about 2,000 to 4,000 mgs per day.  I will especially try to take it as fermented cod liver oil, if possible, from Green Pastures.
  • Start a juicing program of raw, organic vegetables, especially celery and celery seeds, including both chia seeds and flax seeds in the mix.
  • If the above fails, try taking Antimonium Crudum.
I would switch my meat intake from standard store bought meats to exclusively grass-fed beef and organic, free-range chicken.  From the bones, I would make bone broth and drink about 4 ounces of it daily.  (I describe the benefits of bone broth and how to make it in my book Just Do This One Thing: A Guide To Chronic Good Health)  I can also find information about making bone broth on the internet.

In addition, making and drinking this mixture can also eliminate the fear and pain of gout:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of tart cherry juice
  • 1 pineapple
  • 1-2 teaspoons of powdered turmeric
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root or 2-3 teaspoons of powdered ginger
  • Food processor and Blender
  • A strainer
  • A glass container with tight lid
  • Honey
Method of Preparation:

Cut the skin and remove the stem of the pineapple. You can use the stem if you like, because it contains a lot of bromein in it, but it’s ok to use the fruit only. Slice the pineapple into chunks, and put them in the blender. Blend them until they are evenly mashed up, and after that, add the cup of tart cherry juice, then sprinkle the teaspoons of ginger and turmeric.

Store the mixture in the glass container, and close it tight. Put it in your refrigerator and allow it to tighten up for 10 days. Optionally, you can add honey for better taste or you can play with the amounts of ginger and turmeric, depending on your taste. This miraculous drink can stay up to one month in your fridge. If you can consume it on a daily basis, go for it!

Heart Failure

What Holistic or Natural Approach I Would Take If Diagnosed With Heart Failure
by Thomas Martin

This is not a hypothetical situation for me.  This is what happened to me and the disease I personally reversed.  It is this disease that set me on my path to learning as much as possible about optimal health.

Aside from damage from multiple heart attacks there are two primary causes of heart failure.

The first is hypothyroidism.  This was not properly diagnosed by my physician.  I had to personally request a thyroid blood test, specifically asking for a T1, T2, T3, T4 and TSH test and then asking to see the results of the test.  Not surprisingly, my T3 results were in the "normal" range, but low normal. Considering I had heart failure and knowing the strong link between hypothyroidism and heart failure, I felt it important to get onto thyroid treatment.  I was also adamant that the treatment be through natural porcine thyroid such as Armour thyroid rather than a synthetic drug such as Synthroid.  I read several books about the need for natural thyroid, how our bodies work and why this path is optimal.  I would read Overcoming Thyroid Disorders by Dr. David Brownstein.  If my doctor absolutely refuses to prescribe Armour Thyroid, I will order something similar from Nutri-Meds, Dessicated Porcine Thyroid.  Hypothyroidism can also be brought on by fluoride poisoning.  So, immediately get rid of all fluoride toothpaste and refuse any fluoride treatments.  If my water supply contains fluoride, I will get a filtering system which eliminates it.

The second principle cause of heart failure is mercury poisoning.  For some reason, mercury tends to settle in the heart muscle, poisoning the heart cells.  The first thing I will consider is having all mercury amalgam (silver) fillings removed from my teeth.  I would seek out a dentist on the following website.  These dentists are specially trained to safely remove the fillings.

http://iaomt.org/

In dealing with mercury poisoning, it is important to take chlorella tablets on an empty stomach.  Chlorella binds with the mercury and helps to get it out of my system.  It is also important to take high doses of vitamin C (8 to 10 grams per day, spread across the day with meals).  I will also limit the vaccines I would take seeing that the average flu shot contains 50,000 parts per billion (PPB) of mercury. Waste is considered hazardous at anything over 200 PPB.

I would also take:
  • CoQ10 (ubiquinol form) 600 mgs daily
  • L-Carnitine, 2,000 mgs daily
  • Taurine, 2,000 mgs daily
  • PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline), 20 to 30 mgs daily
  • Carnosine.   2,000 mgs daily
  • Resveratrol, 300 mgs daily
  • Vitamin K2, 2,000 mcgs daily
  • Magnesium Oil (preferably Ancient Minerals), 15 spritzes a day
  • Lugol's Solution Iodine (mix of iodine and potassium iodide), 10 to 15 drops in water or on my skin, daily.
  • Nutri-Meds Porcine Thyroid Health, 1 to 3 capsule daily on an empty stomach, this is assuming I cannot get a prescription for Armour Thyroid
  • D-Ribose powder, 5,000 mgs twice daily
  • Vitamin D3, 5,000 to 10,000 mgs daily
  • pycnogenol, 100 mgs daily
  • Cod Liver Oil Capsules, preferably Carlson's, 2,000 to 4,000 mgs daily
  • DHEA, 25 mgs daily
  • Selenium, 200 mcgs daily
  • Vitamin E, 400 IU daily
  • I will also eat 1/3 cup of fermented vegetables daily to ensure my body is properly absorbing all of the nutrients I am taking.
  • If the above fails, I will try taking Antimonium Crudum.

Because of the hypothyroidism/heart failure link, I will also start taking iodine (in the form of Lugol's Solution).  I would alternate putting the solution on my skin and letting it be absorbed and putting it in water and drinking it daily (10 to 15 drops).  I will also read Iodine: Why You Need It and Why You Can't Live Without It by Dr. David Brownstein.

I will work to eliminate as much stress from my life.  Changing from listening to rock or rap music to classical or easy listening.  I would avoid politics, talk radio and try to meditate or pray regularly.

I will try to stop drinking all beverages containing alcohol.

I will seek out a doctor who could arrange hyperbaric oxygen therapy and possibly human growth hormone shots.

Heart Disease (atherosclerosis) & Stroke Prevention

\What Holistic or Natural Path I Would Take If Diagnosed With Heart Disease or Was Told I was in Danger of Having a Stroke
by Thomas Martin

Heart disease, leading to heart attacks, is usually caused by the build up of plaque in the arteries in response to inflammation in the body.  Since I belong to a heart support group, I have found it interesting that the discussion always revolves around the plaque rather than the inflammation.  If you stop the inflammation, the plaque will not only no longer accumulate, the existing plaque will begin to disappear.

So, if I was diagnosed with atherosclerosis and did not want to take prescription medication, here is what I would and would not do:

  • I will immediately work to bring my body's pH balance from a more acid state to a neutral or even slightly alkaline state.  The two primary culprits in this are sugar and chemical sugar substitutes (such as aspartame) and the second is genetically modified foods (GMOs) such as soy, wheat and corn.  Both need to be eliminated immediately, this also includes all vegetable oils and margarine since most are from GMO origins.
  • I will take an Omega-7 Oil capsule daily, with meals.  Based on a study at the Cleveland Wellness Institute, the positive effects of this step should be dramatic.
  • I will take pomegranate extract to assist in removing existing plaque from my veins or arteries.
  • I will take magnesium oil daily, preferably Ancient Minerals.  I would spritz about 15 shots onto my skin and rub it in just before bed.
  • I will take 2,000 to 3,000 mgs of Cod Liver Oil daily
  • I will eat a low carbohydrate diet, eliminating all non-vegetable carbs.
  • I will take Curcumin, Daily
  • I will begin taking the vitamins B6, Folate and B12 (I would take B12 in the form of methylcobalamin as a sublingual tablet for most effective absorption).
  • I will take 400 to 600 mgs of CoQ10, especially in the ubiquinol form (this would be even more important if I was taking a statin drug.  Statins block the body's ability to convert cholesterol into CoQ10, an essential nutrient),
  • I will make fermented vegetables and eat about 1/3 cup daily.  My gut flora is likely out of balance.
  • I will take niacin (Vitamin B3) starting at 500 mgs a day with food and increasing to 3,000 mgs per day.
  • I will take Vitamin K2, 2,000 mcgs daily.
  • I will take pycnogenol, 100 mgs daily
  • I will take Lugol's Solution iodine.  Also 10 to 15 drops on my skin, rubbing it in with my forearm.
  • I will take selenium, 200 mcgs per day,
  • I will take 2,000 mgs of Taurine daily,
  • I will start drinking my morning tea blend of warm water, fresh organic lemon juice, coconut oil and raw, organic honey.
  • I will read and follow as many steps as possible in Part I: Balancing Body Acid and Reducing Inflammation of my own book Just Do This One Thing: A Guide To Chronic Good Health.
  • I will re-read Heart Disease: What Your Doctor Won't Tell You by Dr. Rodger H. Murphree
  • I will also follow the advice in my book about good gut health and a nutrient-dense diet.
  • I will ask for a full panel thyroid blood test from my doctor, specifically asking for T1, T2, T3, T4 and TSH.  If my T3 values were low (even low "normal"), I would ask to be put on a natural thyroid replacement such as Armour thyroid.  If he refused, I would begin taking Dessicated Porcine Thyroid from Nutri-Meds on my own, starting with one capsule a day on an empty stomach.
  • I will NOT take any statin drug as it has been shown repeatedly, even in the statin drug's own studies that they do not reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke or other heart related problems.  I will also re-read Statin Drugs, Side Effects and the Mis-Guided War on Cholesterol by Dr. Duane Graveline as to the horrific side-effects of statins and why they do not reduce your risk of future heart events.
  • If the above fails, I will try taking Antimonium Crudum.
I have attended meeting after meeting of my heart support group and listened to people tell of their stories of heart disease, heart attacks, stents, angiograms and angioplasties, following the diet, taking the statin drugs and yet, still experiencing subsequent heart episodes.

I would ignore anyone telling me it is "in my genes" knowing that 100 years ago only 1 person in 30 got heart disease and today it is 1 in 3.  This would mean that the only people procreating the last 100 years were those with heart disease.  It is merely an excuse as to why heart disease has remained the number one killer of Americans for the last 60 years in spite of over $30 billion a year being spent on statin drugs and billions more on treatments and operations.

I would take control of my own health and give my body what it needs to function properly.  I will look at the diets of societies which have low incidences of heart disease and follow their diets (as I have outlined in my own book).

Asthma

What  Holistic or Natural Approach I would take if diagnosed with Asthma
by Thomas Martin

Surprisingly, Asthma, like many skin and auto-immune diseases, actually stems from a poorly functioning gut, especially one low in stomach acid.

Here are the steps I will do to help control my asthma:

  • I will take Betaine HCL tablets or capsules with each meal I eat.  This will help ensure that I have enough acid in my stomach to help properly process the foods that I eat.
  • I will increase the amount of flora in my gut by adding homemade yogurt to my daily diet along with kombucha, kvass, kefir, and fermented vegetables (again, preferably homemade).  If none of this is possible, I will buy and take Bio-Kult probiotic capsules.
  • I will take gamma linolenic acid (GLA).
  • I will stop consuming sugar and sugar substitutes such as Splenda and aspartame.  I will drink no sodas, including diet sodas.

Depression

What Holistic or Natural Approach I Would Take If Diagnosed With Depression

by Thomas Martin

The first thing I would NOT do is take any anti-depressants.  They are of limited effectiveness and what small amount of good they do, the effects do not last longer than a month or two. I will re-read Dr. David Brownstein's book Drugs That Don't Work and Natural Therapies That Do! to fully understand why these drugs are not helpful.

Here is what I will take:

  • 5,000 to 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 (with meals)
  • 5,000 mgs of Niacin (Vitamin B3), starting at 500 mgs and increasing gradually (with meals)
  • I will take Cod Liver Oil daily,
  • I will take a good B-Complex supplement rich in Vitamins B1 and B6
  • I will take zinc (50 to 150 mgs) daily
  • I will take turmeric daily
  • I will make fermented vegetables and eat about 1/3 cup daily.  My gut flora is likely out of balance.
  • Kombucha, at least 8 ounces per day.
  • Daily exercise, simply brisk walking, if nothing else.

I will also drink my special morning tea blend of 16 ounces warm water (heated to about 115 degrees F), 2 teaspoons virgin, organic coconut oil, 1 teaspoons local, raw, organic honey, and the juice of 1 organic lemon (one-half the lemon if they are quite large).

I will also eliminate all sugar and sugar substitutes from my diet.  I will eat no wheat, corn or soy.
