5 Steps to Reversing & Preventing Strokes

5 Steps: Reversing & Preventing Strokes
I believe that having a stroke is what I fear most.  Interestingly, I have had three of them.  Thankfully, none did any serious long-term damage from which I did not recover.

Here is my list of nutrients to take after experiencing a stroke.  The sooner you begin this protocol, the better the results.  On the other hand, if it has been some time since the stroke, I still recommend following these steps.

  1.  Cod liver oil – Cod liver oil contains vitamins A and D3, as well as being an Omega-3 fatty acid.  Cod liver oil is one of the best things you can take for your cardiovascular system to keep it healthy.  I recommend Carlson’s Cod liver oil which is available in 1,000 mg capsules.  I suggest taking 6 capsules daily, 3 with breakfast and 3 with dinner.
  2.  Curcumin – curcumin is the active ingredient in Turmeric.  Curcumin has been shown in studies to actually help repair damage caused by strokes.  I recommend Life Extension Advanced Bio-Curcumin with Ginger (available at lef.org).  I suggest taking 2 softgels capsules daily, with food.
  3.  Pomegranate extract – Like Curcumin, pomegranate has shown amazing powers of reversing the inflammation that leads to heart attacks and strokes.  I again recommen Life Extension Pomegranate Complete (lef.org).  I suggesting taking two softgel capsules daily, with food.
  4.  Take Vitamin B3 (Niacin) - Niacin causes a skin flush, especially when too much is taken too soon.  Start with a low dose of 50 mgs with food and slowly increase this amount until you are taking 1,000 mgs daily.  The flush is not harmful, merely uncomfortable.
  5.  Eliminate all sugars, grains, and vegetable oils this include chemical sugar substitutes from your diet as both lead to inflammation in the body which is the precursor to many chronic illnesses.

7 Steps to Preventing and Healing Colds & Flu

Eight Steps to Preventing and Healing Colds, Flu, & Infections

by Thomas Martin

We all know that we are most susceptible to colds and flu during the winter months.  Most people, when facing these two illnesses, think of Vitamin C.  The reality is that our skin is more likely to be covered in the winter months and therefore not exposed to sunlight.  The days are also shorter with less available sunlight.  This then means that our bodies are not producing Vitamin D.   A low level of vitamin D is the principle reason we cannot fight off the viruses which cause colds and flu and bacteria which may cause infection.

So, what to do when facing these annoying illnesses and how to prevent them?   Obviously the first thing you should do is increase your intake of Vitamin D3.  You should never, never take Vitamin D2, which is synthetic.  Vitamin D not manufactured by your own body may not be properly absorbed and used.  Therefore, when supplementing with a vitamin D3 capsule, it is also important to take Vitamin K2 and Magnesium
.
The ideal triad of nutrients is as follows:

1.       Vitamin D3 (5,000 to 10,000 IUs)
2.       Vitamin K2 (1,000 mcgs)
3.       Magnesium (my preference is Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil – applied topically)

You should take the above combination of nutrients daily, year round.  Not only will it help you fight off  colds and flu, but it will also increase your bone density, prevent varicose veins, lower your risk of cardiovascular disease, reduce your risk of Parkinson’s disease and help fight cancer.  If you are able to spend time in direct sunlight, expose as much skin as possible, do not wear a hat, do not apply sunscreen, and lay in the sun for 20 to 30 minutes, preferably early and late in the day, never at noon.

A Swedish study of 30,000 women for 20 years found that those who avoided the sun were twice as likely to die from all causes.  Our bodies need sunlight to function properly.  Never exposing your skin to sunlight is not healthy, even using sunscreen is bad for our health.   Try to get out into the sunshine daily wearing shorts, short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts and no hat.  Sit and relax for 20 to 30 minutes.  You will be amazed at the health benefits.  The natural Vitamin D3 your body produces is far more powerful that anything that can be bought on the shelves of a health food store.

If you contract a cold or flu, in addition to the above nutrients I would also recommend the following:

1.        Vitamin C (3,000 mgs, daily)
2.          Zinc (50 to 100 mgs, daily)
         Quercitin (250 mgs, daily)
3.          Vitamin A (25,000 IUs, daily)
        Vitamin B1 (100 mg, daily)

If you suffer from a persistent cough, I strongly recommend avoiding cough syrups and instead buying and drinking organic, raw pineapple juice.  It has been shown to be far more effective than any chemical syrup.

5 Step Approach to Preventing & Reversing Fatty Liver Disease

Seven Step Approach to Reversing Fatty Liver
Fatty Liver is a result of metabolic syndrome.  It can be caused by either excessive alcohol consumption or a diet high in non-vegetable carbohydrates such and sugars and grains.

Left untreated, the end result of having a fatty liver is a reduction in liver function and general poor health.
The medical community says that nothing can be done about this syndrome except an eventual liver transplant.

NONSENSE!

Here are five steps to begin reversing this problem naturally:
1. Take Fresh Lemon Juice - Every morning upon rising, before eating or drinking anything else, take an organic lemon and squeeze the juice into a glass of room temperature water (about 8 to 10 ounces) and drink it. There are multiple health benefits to doing this, but the lemon juice directly cleanses and benefits the liver.

2. Take Choline - Fatty Liver generally indicates a deficiency in choline. The best food source of choline is eggs from chickens allowed to roam freely. Preferably, raise your own chickens. If that is not possible, find a local farm and buy your eggs from them. Each morning, lightly fry 2 eggs in a small amount of pasture butter and eat them. If, for some reason, you cannot eat eggs, then buy choline from a health food store and take it.

3. Take Milk Thistle Extract/Silymarin. Each evening take about 1,000 mgs of milk thistle extract. This also helps detoxify the liver.

4. Take Cod Liver Oil. Cod liver oil is rich in Vitamins D3 and A and is an Omega-3 fatty acid. It has a wide variety of health benefits, including reducing the incidence of heart disease.

5. Stop consuming all alcoholic beverages, sugars (including chemical sugar substitutes), and grains (bread, pasta, etc.).  I realize this final step is quite difficult, but it is also necessary to reverse this disease.

6.  Take 400 mgs of ubiquinol CoQ10 daily.

7.  Drink at least 8 ounces of Kombucha daily.  I prefer the brand Synergy (available at Sprout's, Trader Joe's and other healthful markets)

You will need to stay on this plan for several weeks to see results, but it is extremely effective. It is especially important not to consume anything containing fructose and to avoid all vegetable oils.

5 Step Approach to Preventing & Reversing Heart Disease

A Five Step Approach to Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease

For most of my sixty-year life, Heart Disease has been the number one killer of Americans.  This, in spite of the fact, that we have spent trillions of dollars in research, treatment, and medication.  Currently, Americans spend over $30 billion a year on statin (cholesterol-lowering) drugs alone.  What is the result?  Heart Disease is still the number one killer of Americans.

What makes this even more interesting is that a little over 100 years ago, only 1 man in 30 had a heart attack.  Now that number is 1 in 3.  Yet, supposedly, we are eating healthier and know a lot more about good nutrition and medicine.

Hmmm….  Maybe the medical community simply doesn’t have a handle on all of this.  Maybe their approach is flat-out wrong.

So, here is my brief, five-step plan for preventing and reversing heart disease.
1.       Take Cod Liver Oil.  This seems to be, by far, the most important nutrient to take.  For those in my age bracket, cod liver oil harkens memories of a grandmother and a spoon and this nasty tasting fish oil.  Thankfully, it is now available in capsules.  I take Carlson’s Brand Cod Liver Oil in 1,000 milligram capsules.  Cod liver oil is a rich source of natural vitamins D3 and A.  I suggest taking 3 capsules a day with breakfast and dinner, for a total of 6.

2.      Take CoEnzyme Q10 (CoQ10) – If you are taking a statin drug, such as Lipitor, your body is deficient in CoQ10 because statin drugs block your body’s ability to produce this essential nutrient.  CoQ10 not only prevents heart disease but cancer as well.   A Japanese study showed that men who took over 400 mgs of CoQ10 per day after having a heart attack, reduced their chances of a subsequent heart attack by over 70%.  I recommend taking the ubiquinol form of CoQ10 over the cheaper, less effective ubiquinone form.  After a heart attack, I would suggest taking at least 600 mgs per day for the first two months then reducing the dose to a maintenance level of 400 mgs per day

3.      Take Magnesium Chloride – this is also known as magnesium oil.  It is currently estimated that over 65% of Americans are deficient in magnesium.  Blood tests are inconclusive and cannot be used to accurately determine a body’s need for magnesium.  It takes 257 molecules of magnesium to synthesize just 1 molecule of sugar.  If you consume just one soft drink, you dramatically deplete your body of this essential mineral.  Magnesium oil is sprayed onto the skin and allowed to be absorbed by the body.  I suggest spraying 10 to 15 shots onto your skin and rubbing it in.

4.      Take Curcumin – curcumin is the therapeutic component in turmeric.  It dramatically reduces the inflammation caused by the standard American Diet.  What “clogs” our arteries is not cholesterol or animal fats, it is our body’s natural defense against inflammation.  Our body tries to soothe or ease the inflammation by coating our arteries with calcium.  If you eliminate the inflammation, the body will naturally begin reversing the blockage.  I recommend taking 1,200 mgs of curcumin per day for the first 2 months following a heart attack and the reducing the dose to 600 mgs per day at  a maintenance level.

5.      Eliminate all sugar and chemical sugar substitutes – Sugar is the biggest reason we experience inflammation in our bodies and vascular system.  I also suggest eliminating all wheat products from your diet.
There is much more information available about a healthy diet and lifestyle in my book Just Do This One Thing: A Guide to Chronic Good Health available on my website www.OnePercentHealth.com.  I also strongly recommend that you consume no vegetable oils such as canola, soy, corn, cottonseed, etc.

5 Step Approach to Preventing & Reversing Gout

A Five Step Approach to Controlling and Reversing Gout

If you have ever experienced a gout flare up, you know the intense, debilitating pain from it.  I have battled gout for years, seeking natural answers.  One thing is for certain, my doctors are absolutely clueless and their medications were worthless.

If you are taking a diuretic (water pill) such as Lasix, you are more susceptible to gout.  Each of us is different and what works for one may not work for another.  I suggest working down this list of natural remedies until you find something that works for you.

1.      1.  Take Nettle Extract.  This is the primary extract I take to prevent gout and it has worked brilliantly.  The brand I buy is Gaia and I take 1 capsule every morning on an empty stomach with water.  Only once in 9 months have I had a flare up of gout (where, before, I was having one a month).  During the flare up I increased the dose to two capsules in the morning and two in the afternoon.  I did this along with Step 2 (below) and my gout was gone in only 2 days (7 days was typical before).

2.      2. During a flare up, I also drink a mixture of baking soda (not baking powder) and water.  I put about ½ teaspoon into the water, mix and drink it on an empty stomach.  I do this upon rising from bed and then about 90 minutes before having dinner.  I do not recommend this step to be done during “Maintenance,” only during a flare up.

3.      3. Take Celery and/or celery extract.  Celery is very effective for reducing uric acid in our bodies.  You would need to eat quite a bit of celery to get the desired effect, so celery extract is probably a better option.  Not knowing a specific brand and its potency, I suggest you start by following the advice on the bottle.  If it does not help, double it.

4.      4. Take Vitamin A. Take 25,000 IUs of vitamin A daily with food.

5.      5. Take Bone Broth.  Bone broth is a gelatinous stock rich in fats and nutrients needed to combat gout.

Please note:  Should you be taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin, please alert your medical staff that you are taking the above extract(s), as some may also have an effect on your blood INR level.  As I said, I take Nettle leaf and keep my doctors informed.
