5 Step Approach to Preventing & Reversing Gout



A Five Step Approach to Controlling and Reversing Gout

If you have ever experienced a gout flare up, you know the intense, debilitating pain from it.  I have battled gout for years, seeking natural answers.  One thing is for certain, my doctors are absolutely clueless and their medications were worthless.  

If you are taking a diuretic (water pill) such as Lasix, you are more susceptible to gout.  Each of us is different and what works for one may not work for another.  I suggest working down this list of natural remedies until you find something that works for you.

1.      1.  Take Nettle Extract.  This is the primary extract I take to prevent gout and it has worked brilliantly.  The brand I buy is Gaia and I take 1 capsule every morning on an empty stomach with water.  Only once in 9 months have I had a flare up of gout (where, before, I was having one a month).  During the flare up I increased the dose to two capsules in the morning and two in the afternoon.  I did this along with Step 2 (below) and my gout was gone in only 2 days (7 days was typical before).

2.      2. During a flare up, I also drink a mixture of baking soda (not baking powder) and water.  I put about ½ teaspoon into the water, mix and drink it on an empty stomach.  I do this upon rising from bed and then about 90 minutes before having dinner.  I do not recommend this step to be done during “Maintenance,” only during a flare up.

3.      3. Take Celery and/or celery extract.  Celery is very effective for reducing uric acid in our bodies.  You would need to eat quite a bit of celery to get the desired effect, so celery extract is probably a better option.  Not knowing a specific brand and its potency, I suggest you start by following the advice on the bottle.  If it does not help, double it.  

4.      4. Take Vitamin A. Take 25,000 IUs of vitamin A daily with food.    

5.      5. Take Bone Broth.  Bone broth is a gelatinous stock rich in fats and nutrients needed to combat gout. 

Please note:  Should you be taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin, please alert your medical staff that you are taking the above extract(s), as some may also have an effect on your blood INR level.  As I said, I take Nettle leaf and keep my doctors informed.

A Five Step Approach to Type 2 Diabetes, Pre-Diabetes, and Metabolic Syndrome

Type 2 diabetes is best addressed through diet. Several nutrients have also been studied and have shown to help dramatically improve the patient’s health and dependency on insulin and other medications. 
These are the top five steps I recommend for addressing Type 2 diabetes.  

1.       Take Magnesium Chloride – this is also known as magnesium oil.  It is applied to the skin, rubbed in and absorbed by the body.  One great advantage to this form of magnesium is that it does not cause diarrhea.  It take 257 molecules of magnesium to synthesize just one molecule of glucose.  So, if you drink only 1 sweet soda, you deplete your body of the essential mineral.  I suggest spraying 10 to 12 shots of the spray onto your skin and rubbing it in. Should it cause a burning sensation, you may wash it off after 20 minutes.  

2.      Take Cod Liver Oil – Just like grandma told us, Cod Liver Oil is very, very good for our bodies.  It is rich in Vitamin D, Vitamin A and is an Omega-3 oil.  This combination is especially helpful for our hearts, eyes, and immune system.  Not only will this help with diabetes, you will also experience fewer colds and dramatically reduce your risk of the flu and even cancer.  I take Carlson’s Brand Cod Liver Oil in 1,000 mg capsules.  I recommend taking 4 to 6 capsules a day, with food.

3.      Take Berberine – Berberine is a natural alkaloid compound that is both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.  It is also helpful in improving insulin sensitivity.  I recommend taking 1,000 mgs of berberine per day, also with food.

4.      Take Omega-7 Oil – A study done at the prestigious Cleveland Wellness Institute about Omega-7 oil and diabetes showed that several Type 2 diabetics who regularly took insulin were able to discontinue insulin use after only 1 month of taking omega-7 oil.  One resource for Omega-7 oil is from Life Extension (lef.org) and the product is listed under the name Provinal® Purified Omega-7 Oil.  I recommend taking about 200 mgs per day, with food.  

5.      Take Vitamin B12 (Methycobalamin) - Vitamin B-12 is an essential nutrient and one in which vegan and vegetarians are often deficient.  It is not easily absorbed through the stomach, so it is best to take this either by injection or sublingually (a tablet dissolved under the tongue).   Improving gut health through eating fermented vegetables will also help with vitamin B-12 absorption through the foods you eat, especially red meat.  The most effective form of vitamin B-12 to take is as methylcobalamin.  I suggest taking 2 to 5 mgs of vitamin B12, daily.  If you are taking the diabetes drug Metformin®, you are likely B-12 deficient.

Of course, you must stop consuming sugar and especially chemical sugar substitutes such as aspartame.  I also recommend that you stop consuming all products labeled “low fat” or “non fat.”  

It is also important to maintain good gut health, in other words, providing your gut with the good bacteria necessary to both properly digest food and maintain a healthy immune system.  The most effective way is by fermenting and eating vegetables.  This is far more cost effective than buying probiotic capsules at the store.  You can learn how to make these from a recipe in my book, mentioned below, or from my video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGYs6triBgQ

I suffered from acne as a teen and tried everything the doctor suggested, including weekly antibiotic shots.  It was frustrating and none of it did any good.  Here is a proven method for addressing acne:


1. Take Magnesium Chloride.  This is also known as magnesium oil.  You spray the oil onto your skin and rub it in.  Unlike other forms of magnesium taken orally, this will not cause loose bowels.  I suggest spraying 10 to 15 shots onto your skin daily.   It takes magnesium about 3 months to reach the cellular level, so you may not see immediate results from this step, but it is a very important one to take. If, by chance, the magnesium causes a burning sensation on your skin, you may wash it off after 20 minutes.  The burning sensation generally confirms a magnesium deficiency.  

2. Take Vitamin D3.  Take ONLY Vitamin D3, not D2 or any other form.  Take at least 5,000 IUs per day with a meal.

3. Take Cod Liver Oil. Cod liver oil is rich in both Vitamins A and D3 and is also an Omega-3 fatty acid. It has a wide variety of health benefits, including reducing the incidence of heart disease.  I recommend taking 4 to 6 1,000 mgs capsule per day with food.  

4. Stop consuming all alcoholic beverages, sugars (including chemical sugar substitutes), and grains (bread, pasta, etc.).  I realize this step is quite difficult, but it is also necessary to reverse this condition .  

5. Eat Fermented Vegetables.  It is cheapest and most effective to make your own.  You can watch my video below.  You need eat only ½ cup of these vegetables per day.  This will increase the good bacteria in your gut.   If you cannot make your own, buy Bubbies Sauerkraut from a market such as Sprouts.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGYs6triBgQ

You will need to stay on this plan for several weeks to see results, but it is extremely effective.

I also recommend taking a good B-Complex vitamin supplement 6 days a week.

I believe I once had a migraine headache.  Well, whatever it was, it was horribly painful and debilitating.  Thankfully, it only happened once.  I have friends who suffer regularly from this condition and have come up with these 5 steps to help reverse the problem.

1. Take CoQ10.  Recent studies have shown significant results in treating migraines with CoQ10.  I suggest taking 400 to 600 mgs of the Ubiquinol form of CoQ10 rather than the cheaper, less effective form of Ubiquinone.  This step will also benefit your heart and brain and is absolutely essential if you are taking any sort of statin drug.

3. Take Cod Liver Oil. Cod liver oil is rich in both Vitamins A and D3 and is also an Omega-3 fatty acid. It has a wide variety of health benefits, including reducing the incidence of heart disease.  I suggest taking Carlson's Cod Liver Oil Capsules (1,000 mg).  Take 3 capsules with breakfast and 3 with dinner. 

4. Stop consuming all alcoholic beverages, sugars (including chemical sugar substitutes), and grains (bread, pasta, etc.).  I realize this step is quite difficult, but it is also necessary to reverse this disease.  

5. Take a good B-Complex Vitamin such as Life Extention BioActive Complete B-Complex (available from lef.org).

Meniere's Syndrome

What Holistic or Natural Approach I would Take if Diagnosed with Meniere's Syndrome

Here is what I would do if diagnosed with Meniere's Syndrome:
 
  • Magnesium Chloride (spritz about 15 shots on skin and rub in with your inner forearm just before bed,
  • Lugol’s solution Iodine (a blend of iodine and potassium iodide), about 10 to 15 drops on my skin, rubbing it in with my forearm, daily. 
  • I will take Vitamin B12, in the form of Methylcobalamin, sublingually, 5 mgs, daily.
  • I will take 50 to 150 mgs of Zinc daily,
  • I will take Niacin, working up to 500 mgs daily, with a meal (starting at a lower dose and increasing it weekly), 
  • I will stop using all grocery store salt and instead use Himalayan Salt in my food, but I will not use a salt-restricted diet
  • I will take Vitamin D3 - 5,000 to 10,000 iu daily,
  • I will make fermented vegetables and eat about 1/3 cup daily.  My gut flora is likely out of balance,
  • For motion sickness issues, I will take 4 tablets of Kali Phos and let them melt under my tongue
  • I will not consume any caffeine,
  • I will eliminate all artificial sweeteners from my diet such as aspartame
  • Raw, Virgin, Cold-pressed Coconut Oil  - 2 tablespoons (or seven teaspoons) daily (work slowly up to this level as coconut oil also acts as a laxative)
  • I will eliminate all Sugar, Wheat, Corn and Soy from my diet

Toenail and other Fungi

What Holistic or Natural Approach I Would Take If Diagnosed With Toenail or other Fungi Disorder

This is another real-life problem for me.   I struggled with toenail fungus for about 14 years.  I tried all of the over the counter remedies but would not submit to the oral drug.  That drug has a nasty side effect of permanently damaging your liver, a risk I wasn't about to take.  

If you have toenail fungus, keep in mind you have fungus throughout your body.  It is best to address both simultaneously for the greatest level of success

So, here is what I did:L
  • Topical Treatment
    • Apply Oregano Oil, along with Raw, Virgin Coconut oil to the affected toenails each night (You may want to wear cotton socks over your feet while doing this).  You want to use oregano oil extracted specifically from oregano vulgae.    
  • Internal Treatment
    • For the first seven days, take two to three drops of the oregano oil in whichever beverage allows you to drink it.  The taste is quite pungent, so try water or even organic concord grape juice.  I added it to my vegetable/fruit smoothie.
    • Take zinc, 50 to 100 mgs daily
    • Eliminate the following foods from your diet for at least 30 to 60 days:
      • All sugar and sugar substitutes
      • All milk, with the exception of plain, organic yogurt
      • All alcohol
      • All wheat, corn and soy
      • Potatoes and White rice
    • To help support liver function:
      • Take silymarin (or Milk Thistle), three times daily
      • Upon rising in the morning (first thing, before any other food or drink), squeeze the juice of an organic lemon into a glass of room-temperature or slightly warm water and drink it.  Do not eat or drink anything else for about 30 minutes.
    • To aid in general health, removing of the fungi:

  It isn't essential you do all of these steps, but the more you do, the more likely the fungi will die.
